Samsung Galaxy 3D Arriving Q4 2011?

July 23, 2011 in News

After Sharp got the 3D smartphone race running back in Japan last year, LG introduced the Optimus 3D, and HTC pulled together the EVO 3D. Now the remaining major smartphone manufactures may be about to play catch-up, at least according to a report that Samsung may be prepping its own Galaxy 3D in time for a Q4 launch.

Korea’s ETNews cites industry sources as tipping it off to the Galaxy 3D project. From the supposed hardware specs that are available, the smartphone sounds very much like the Galaxy S2, mirroring what we’ve seen from other manufacturers releasing two similar handsets, one with 3D and one without. Like the GS2, the G3D would run a 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos and have a 4.3-inch display. Helping you create some 3D content of your own, there will be dual eight-megapixel auto-focus cameras. If you need a larger screen, HDMI-out will pipe that 3D imagery to a compatible HDTV.

According to these sources, the G3D would ship with Gingerbread when released towards the end of the year, and as we would expect from a high-end phone, would receive ICS once it becomes available.

We’re curious to see what lasting impact 3D screens will have on the smartphone market. Is it going to be enough for each manufacturer to just have one 3D model in its stable, or are we going to see more competition as the technology improves?

Samsung Romania’s Twitter account either leaked the next Nexus or just reposted some blog rumors

July 12, 2011 in News

According to Engadget, Samsung Romania’s twitter account either leaked the next Nexus or just reposted some blog rumors.

“So far rumors of the next Nexus phone have been mostly whispered and unverifiable, but they appeared to get a strong confirmation when confirmation and specs were spotted on the Samsung Romania Twitter account (@SamsungMobileRO). Romanian business paper ZF grabbed the tweets saying the Nexus Prime would feature a Super AMOLED HD (1280 x 720) screen and Android 4.0 when it ships later this year, however when contacted, Samsung reps deleted them and claimed the information originated from an outside source. That outside source could be a rumor posted on the Boy Genius Report the day before mentioning the same specs, as well as the possibility of “halo” Ice Cream Sandwich phones from HTC and Motorola at the same time. For now we’ll lean towards believing the company line, but if any of the Samsung social media accounts ever cough an accidental DM or two (who hasn’t done it?) we’ll consider them more carefully.”

According to later messages from same twitter account, the information was uploaded by mistake and is based on a rumor and is not officially confirmed for Samsung Romania. (anyway, would they admit it if it were no rumor, but uploaded by mistake, that the uploaded phone is the next Nexus? Probably not..)
